Back to School Celebration

Last year we started a new Hart tradition.  The night before the first day of school, we did a big "fancy" Back to School Celebration.  My boys have always been a little antsy over the start of the new school year, and I thought it might help them with the first day of school jitters.  Well, they loved it and we decided it would become an annual thing.  Even though we now homeschool, we still wanted to have a big celebration to kick off the 2012-2013 school year.  So tonight we had that celebration.

If you have read any of my previous blog posts, you know that I LOVE parties and I LOVE to decorate and I LOVE crafts, but mostly I LOVE MY FAMILY, and I LOVE to make them feel SPECIAL.  I thank God every day for giving me a fabulous husband and these three amazing children.

Happy Back to School 2012-2013 Dinner

This year, my theme revolved around school supplies.  I took 2 sheets of regular notebook paper, and laminated them together to give us these cute placemats.  The name plates were from Wal-Mart, but i am sure you could create and print your own.

I used my red dishes that my mother in law got me a couple of years ago, and I found some red napkins to match at Wal-mart.  Then I took a normal drinking straw and printed these cute Back to School Flags and stapled them around the straws.  (I was going to post the link to the Flags, but it isn't working..sorry)

Next I tied the straw and napkin together with some cute school ribbon I had in my scrapbook stash.
On top of the napkin I made Rolo Pencils and I tucked in a Library Card Menu.  I also found some school themed lunch box joke notes and scattered them around the table as well.

Now to the Centerpiece and display....

This was so much fun.  On the very bottom is a 12x12 piece of scrapbook paper.  Next I bought 4 composition notebooks at Wal-Mart (I love back to school prices on school supplies)  I bought a Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow and then stacked them so that you could see all the colors.  Then I had a jar of chalk, a bottle of White Out, a bottle of glue, a couple of apples, and a Hall Pass (again from Wal-Mart).  In the very center is my cute little flower arrangement I made....thanks to these instructions.. this is also where I got the idea for the Hall Pass.

What classroom is complete without some paper airplanes flying through the air...so we had 3 hanging from our light fixture above the table.

The Menu:

Parmesan Potatoes (ignore the typo on the menu card)

We had a lot of fun celebrating the start of the school year.  Tomorrow we hit the books full time.  I can't believe that I have a
3rd Grader

and a
5th Grader

Where does the time go?

and of course we can't forget the Sassy 2 year old!!
